Faculty Services
Activities performed by Lilly's contracted healthcare professionals primarily consist of advising Lilly and conducting medical lectures designed for healthcare professionals and patient education.

Patient Education Programs
Lilly contracts with credentialed educators to help inform patients and their caregivers on the proper use of certain Lilly medications—such as those used with injection devices—that have been prescribed to the patients. Educators may also provide disease and medication administration education to prescribing healthcare professionals and their office staff. All patient education is provided only upon referral by the prescribing healthcare professional. |

Healthcare Professional Education Programs
Healthcare Professional Education Programs are speaker programs intended to enhance the knowledge and patient care expertise of healthcare professionals. Led by contracted healthcare professionals, these programs feature education on:
- Data from clinical trials on the effectiveness and safety of Lilly medicines
- Application of data in clinical practice
- Medication dosage, frequency of administration, and duration of use
- Information about the underlying disease, disease management, and epidemiology
- Symptom identification, patient presentation, and diagnosis
Speaker presentations and educational materials are developed by Lilly professionals in collaboration with contracted expert advisors, many of whom are respected academics. All programs must adhere to U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations. |
 |
Advising/Consulting & International Education Programs
Lilly Faculty advising/consulting includes commercial activities where contracted healthcare professionals provide insights and recommendations in areas such as:
- Data analysis, interpretation, and insights on clinical implications
- Treatment issues in select patient populations
- Healthcare professional education program development and training
- Development of commercialization materials
Advisors are typically well-known researchers and clinicians, who are respected by other healthcare professionals, often cited in professional literature, and active in professional medical societies. For the purposes of the Lilly Faculty Registry, compensation for healthcare professional education programs conducted outside of the United States is listed as International Education Programs. |

Faculty Requirements
A select group of healthcare professionals are invited to become a Lilly Faculty member based on the following criteria:

Faculty Compensation
Our contracted faculty are key resources in our efforts to advance patient care. Whether conducting informative programs for other healthcare professionals, providing patient education, or advising on the complex nature of diseases, our faculty relationships are an important part of our efforts to help people live longer, healthier, and more active lives.
For these services, Lilly Faculty are compensated at fair market value—the amount they would earn from others for a similar service.
To view payments for compensation and certain travel related expenses for a specific faculty member, refer to the Lilly Faculty Registry Report.

Conflict of Interest Reporting & Disclosure
Lilly and its faculty members take a number of measures to disclose their relationships and avoid potential conflicts of interest.
For example, at the beginning of a Lilly educational activity or patient education programs, the faculty speaker is required to identify himself or herself as a compensated representative of Lilly. The speaker must state that the program is sponsored by Lilly and, in the case of healthcare professional education programs, is not accredited for continuing medical education.
Many of Lilly's faculty members are associated with medical and academic institutions throughout the United States. These institutions may also have their own unique policies on conflict of interest.
Faculty members also agree, as a part of their contractual agreement, that if they have a role in formulary decisions with a public or private institution or payer, they will disclose that they have a contract with Lilly, the types of services they perform, and the amount of compensation they receive. Consistent with the pharmaceutical industry's PhRMA code on interactions with healthcare professionals, this requirement extends for two years beyond the term of their agreement with Lilly.
Additionally, Lilly places no restrictions on a faculty member's ability to inform their patients, employer, any licensing authority, or anyone else, the amount they are paid under the Lilly agreement.
Finally, the creation of this registry also reflects our commitment to transparency.
